Closet Clean-Out: What to Let Go of Before Fall
The end of summer is the perfect time to hit the refresh button. Before the boots and coats return, give your closet space to breathe. Here’s my guide on how to decide what to keep, what to let go, and what you’re just plain over.
Start with What You Didn’t Wear
If you haven’t reached for it all summer - chances are you might not anymore. Ask yourself if those pieces still reflect your style, your body and your lifestyle right now? Maybe they need alteration to fit you properly?
Check for Summer Staples That Are Worn Out
Sun-faded tees, white clothing that turned yellow or got deodorant stains, stretched-out swimsuits, sandals that have lost their shape… time to say goodbye without guilt, but make notes what you have to replace for next summer.
Revisit “Someday” Pieces
That dress you’re saving for the right event? That top you’ll wear when you loose 5 lbs? If “someday” hasn’t arrived in the past year… maybe it’s time to let go.
Assess What You Loved and Wore on Repeat
This tells you what is working. Use the insight to shop intentionally when fall arrives.
Create a “Maybe” Box
If you’re unsure, store it for 30 days out of sight. If you don’t miss it, you don’t need it.
A seasonal closet refresh is about more than clothes - it’s a mindset shift. Make room for pieces that support the woman you are now, not the one you were five years ago.
