No White After Labor Day? Let’s Retire That Rule.
Can we finally put the “no white after Labor Day” rule to rest?
I know, I know. So many women still have this little voice in the back of their heads saying, “But can I really wear white in October?”
Yes. You absolutely can.
This is one of those old-fashioned fashion rules that simply doesn’t apply anymore—and if you’re avoiding white all fall and winter because of it, you’re missing out on so many beautiful outfit possibilities.
White is sophisticated, fresh and incredibly chic. And I actually love what it does for a fall outfit because it adds brightness when everything around us starts getting darker.
How to Wear White in the Fall
Instead of thinking of white as a “summer color,” think about what you pair it with.
For fall, white looks gorgeous with chocolate and warm browns, navy, burgundy, olive, grey and, of course, black if you love a higher-contrast look.
A pair of white or cream jeans with a chocolate sweater and loafers? Gorgeous. A white blouse with burgundy trousers? So chic. Or try a cream sweater with navy pants and gold jewelry.
But Which White Is YOUR White?
And this is where Color Analysis comes in, because not every white is created equal—and not every shade of white is going to flatter every woman.
Some of us look fabulous in a crisp, bright optic white, while others come alive in ivory, cream, soft white or a warmer winter white. The right white can brighten your complexion and make you look fresh and radiant. The wrong one can do exactly the opposite.
So, if you’re wondering which shade of white flatters YOU the most, I can only say: Color Analysis.
If you still haven’t had your colors professionally analyzed, what are you waiting for? 😉 Knowing your color type takes so much of the guesswork out of shopping—not only for white, but for your entire wardrobe, accessories, makeup and even your best metallics.

Want to Make It More Interesting? Add a Print.
This is where you can have some fun—and you know I’m always going to tell you that getting dressed should be fun.
Try zebra for a bold, dramatic, high-contrast look, Bambi print for something softer and more muted, leopard for a classic little dose of personality, snake print for something edgier, or polka dots and stripes for a timeless option.
Even something as simple as a printed shoe, belt, scarf or handbag can completely change the outfit.
And for the Holidays? Bring on the Sparkle.
White can also be absolutely beautiful for festive dressing. Pair it with gold, silver or rose gold and suddenly it doesn’t feel summery at all—it feels luxurious.
Think winter white trousers with a metallic shoe, a cream blazer with a silky metallic top, or a beautiful white sweater with statement jewelry.
Very chic. Very festive. And definitely no fashion rule violations happening here. 😉
The most important thing I want you to remember is this: your wardrobe should not be dictated by outdated rules.
Wear colors that flatter you. Wear combinations that make you excited to get dressed. And if you want to wear white in October, November, January—or all year long—please do.
There are no style police!
Below, I’ve put together some inspirational looks along with a few shoppable options to show you just how versatile white can be beyond summer.
Have fun with it!
XO,
Julia
